SPEC CLIP WRAPPED ( ALMOST! )

Posted in Uncategorized on October 18, 2011 by joshgroom

On Friday and Sunday we completed two mammoth days of shooting on our spec music video.

Don’t know if this has been done before, but we’ve decided to shoot a video WITHOUT a song or even a band attached…!!  The clip comes from the seed of an idea that squirted out of Bernard Stock when he heard the song ‘DLZ’ by Tv on the Radio, while watching an episode of Breaking Bad.  He and I worked up a narrative and decided to go ahead and shoot the thing without a budget or label.

I assumed I’d be shooting it – so I began training myself in shooting models…   but thankfully Glenn Hanns came on board to shoot the thing and took the thing to a whole new level of professionalism.

Now we have some truly spectacular images and the plan is to cut them to ‘DLZ,’ then start shopping it around for the right band and track.  It was an awesome shoot, a day at The Vanguard in Newtown, courtesy of the Sexy Boss himself, Mr Russall S. Beattie – then a day at The Thorougbred Motel in Randwick.

We were blessed with a f*cking brilliant crew and an unbelievable cast.  I can’t wait to watch this thing take shape – it’s definately like nothing I’ve ever done before.  We have one last day of shooting – just three shots to get, but we still need to source a semi-trailer as a prop…   For the time being though – it’s onto the next things…

I’m cutting a teaser trailer for Redd Inc today…

Then it’s down to Mudgee tomorrow to shoot a TV campaign for Mudgee Tourism…

Then back on Saturday in time for a couples shoot with Nicki Gowland and Joshua Seven…

Busy and loving it!!

IN A GARFIELD MASK

Thought I’d break radio silence.  It’s been a long time since I blogged.

Just reread that last sentence, sounds like the opening line of a TVC for All Bran.

Patton Oswalt has a new CD out…  I’m excited about that.

My brown burmese cat, Noodle, is destroying a small toy mouse under Maddi’s desk.

This morning I went to the Sun Room at the Ivy for the 2011 IF Awards Nomination Announcement.

I saw the guy from Snowtown.  He is awesome.  That film was dark and unsettling in a way few movies can be.  I felt like I needed to be disinfected after the screening.  Me and Corey Farrell saw it and watched as the cinema around us emptied out.  I think it’s brilliant but it’s a hard film to recommend to people. It’s weird, I want it to be sucessful as hell -and was bummed today when it didn’t get nominated for Best Picture or Best Actor. Anyway, such a powerful performance – I was a bit star struck.

‘Overpass,’ the music video we made for The John Steel Singers, got nominated for Best Music Video.  We’re up against two intimidating women – Kimbra & Olivia Newton John.

We’re shooting our spec music video this weekend…  Friday morning and Sunday night…  Should be awesome.  Got a great crew and cast together and some gorgeous locations…

Shooting a TVC for Mudgee tourism next week…  Praying for sunshine.

ONE ENDS, ONE BEGINS

today I shot a TVC for Harris Farm, worked at Postbox on Episode 7 of The Great Australian Doorstep, shot 4 EPK interviews for Redd Inc. and received signed release forms for our documentary project to begin shooting… it was a great day today.  oh…  did i mention the knicks clinched a playoff berth?  yeah, that too.

WRAPPING REDD INC.

Posted in Uncategorized on April 1, 2011 by joshgroom

Today is the second last day of shooting on Redd Inc. and with tomorrow being a closed set – this is my last day on set.  It’s been an awesome experience – one I’m sure I’ll never forget.

Yesterday I got to direct Nicholas Hope ( of Bad Boy Bubby fame ), in a viral video to promote the film…  I’ll get a link up on this site as soon as one exists.

Tonight I’m going to The Metro Theatre to shoot Sparkadia for Drum Media, which promises to be an interesting night.

Today I’ll be doing the EPK interviews with Kelly and Sebastian, the two lead actors in the film…  I’m looking forward to getting onto the edit of the extra materials…  and as much of a blast as it’s been being on set, going back to a normal existence will be a relief.  On Wednesday night I was working until 3:40am, and Maddi ( my girlfriend ) left for her work at 3:30am…  ( she’s production runner on the new season of Underbelly )  Yep, this is a very strange time, indeed.  I wouldn’t have it any other way.

FEATURED GIG

Posted in Uncategorized on March 22, 2011 by joshgroom

My photograph of the John Steel Singers got the half page, full color treatment in Drum media this week as part of the featured Gig of the week…

In other news…   our secret crew member on Redd Inc. will be giving a Masterclass in his area of expertise for the DVD / Blue Ray extra features…

I’m so excited I can’t feel my feet.

ANOTHER BIG WEEK DOWN… ANOTHER ONE COMING…

Posted in Uncategorized on March 20, 2011 by joshgroom

From shooting and directing a Harris Farm TVC first thing Monday morning, to being on the set of Redd Inc. a few days – and interviewing several key cast and crew members, to shooting The John Steele Singers & Jonathon Boulet gig at The Factory Theatre in Marrickville last night – it’s been a big week.   Cap it off with a Stone Temple Pilots gig tonight at the Hordern…  I’m feeling tired but exhilarated…

Amongst all that other stuff I’m working at Postbox at the moment on the new season of The Great Australian Doorstep and we’ve just had a big break-through in our feature length documentary to be completed later this year…

I’m not getting much sleep…  Or seeing my gorgeous girlfriend nearly as much as I’d like…  Let alone hang out with our two awesome cats, Frisbee and Noodle…  But I know I will look back on this time as one of the most exciting of my career…

Again, I wish I could say more…

And I will…    soon.

Till then…  Here’s a little Johnny Cash / Zack Snyder awesomeness…
